further 與 farther 的比較
a.兩者均可用來指實際的距離，即空間上的距離，表『更遠的∕地』：
We cannot go any farther without a rest.
= We cannot go any further without a rest.
不休息一下就無法再往前走了。

而 further 則可用以表達抽象意念『更進一步的∕地』
We intend to stay here for a further two months.

a. 比較 tend to V / intend to V。
tend to...表『有……傾向；易於∕往往會……』的意思，而 intend to...表『有意要……；打算要……』的意思。

The areas near the river tend to flood easily.
接近這條河的地區經常容易淹水。
Do you intend to become a politician?
你打算要從政嗎？

b. cholesterol-free, sugar-free, interest-free & duty-free。
以-free 結尾的單字表『無……的；不含……的』，如：cholesterol-free（不含膽固醇的）、sugar-free（無糖的）、interest-free（免息的）及 duty-free（免稅的）。

　　在美國餐館吃早餐，想吃蛋，要如何向服務生說呢？

　　你說：「我要土司加蛋。」（ I would like some eggs with toast please. ）

　　這事看起來，好像很簡單。在台灣的早餐店，我們不都是這麼叫的嗎？問題是，在美國，吃蛋有各種方法，到底你要的是哪一種呢？

　　這時候，服務生站在一旁開口說話。他講得很快，像機關槍似的一大串話，你聽起來好像是在說：“ Would you like one or two or three; whites only or with yolks; scrambled; poached; or fried－sunny-side up, over, or over-easy? ”

注意：
dozen, hundred, thousand, million 作形容詞時，之前可置數字，但該數量詞後不可加 s，
其後直接置名詞。

文法一點靈

注意
比較句構中，比較對象要一致。為避免名詞重複，單數名詞或不可數名詞改用 that，複數名詞則改用 those。上句要比較的共同對象是 a written language（書寫語言）。

Students at this school study harder than students at that school. (劣)
→ Students at this school study harder than those at that school. (佳)
這所學校的學生比那所用功。

The color of your car is darker than the color of mine. (劣)

end up 現在分詞(V-ing) 到頭來
